My vision began to blur as it darkened and I tried hard to fight against the black abyss that was threatening to take me. Now was not the time to sleep, but I couldn’t stop the effect. It was as if something was pulling me deeper into the darkness and no amount of struggling could prevent it. The last thing I saw before I fell into the deep slumber was Oria’s little feet walking toward me, then nothing at all.

I felt that strange sensation again, like a wave of extreme sleepiness trying to wash over me. It drifted away like it had before, but I wondered what the fuck it was?
“Keep sharp,” Nakai said when she saw me shake my head of the haziness.
“Yeah, I am,” I said, not wanting to admit that I’d almost fallen asleep not once, but twice. Was I really that out of it? I knew Raphael had fucked me good earlier, but I’d felt energized after that romp. Even now, I was feeling more active, so where had that sudden exhaustion come from? I needed to get my mind in the game.
We were waiting to get the final word on the death of the last Shakodi. I was ready to unleash my Agoto as soon as the souls were free. I was hoping to eat at least two souls before they could even get back into the bodies of the sacrificial demons. I knew my mates were alive, because I could feel the link between us intact, but there was a point where I could sense Brian was suffering. Whatever the shaman demon was doing to him had put his Agoto through a great deal of pain. It took everything I had not to go to him. I had a mission to accomplish and had to keep the faith that Brian and Dakkar would be able to handle it.
Good news was, they had. And I knew Raphael was still alive, because, for one reason, I could still feel him connected to me. Secondly, Nakai had gotten a text from Oria confirming the kill. So, it just left Ade and Rohan. According to Nakai, they were taking on the most powerful, which made sense. Ade was damn stronger than Brian and Raphael, his Agoto would be able to withstand a lot more and its pull was powerful. When Katashniel’s army broke free, he and Nasini were sucking down hundreds of souls to my two and Raphael’s dozen. So, I was glad he was dealing with the biggest threat instead of my mates.
Nakai was standing at the feet of one of the demons, poised to kill as soon as they were revived. Wait a minute, I could handle this on my own, right? Well, at least this part. If other demons did come by, I’d need back up.
“Lord Nasini, this thought just came to me. Why don’t I just ash their bodies, that way their souls won’t be able to return?” I asked, wondering why I hadn’t thought of that before.
“Foolish demon,” she snapped, as if that shit was helpful.
“Why is that foolish, my Lord?” I asked in my most respectful tone. It was a good thing I was a lawyer and used to keeping my cool when others were assholes.
“You can only feed on two demon souls at one time, correct?” she asked.
“Yes, my Lord.”
“Well, that leaves the other three to flee and find another human body to inhabit. That leaves three traitors the chance to go free. Is that what you want?” she asked.
Well no, but that was all the bitch had to say. She didn’t have to talk down to me, but that was what powerful demons did, I supposed. “No, my Lord. I don’t want that.”
“Neither do I, which is why we must wait until all souls have returned to their bodies. That way, I will be able to kill them permanently.”
“Do you oppose me sucking down two souls before they reach the bodies, my Lord?”
“You may. I’m sure it will be something you’ll enjoy.”
“I will, thank you, my Lord.” I didn’t see any reason to let the souls I could take down reach their bodies. She was right about the other plan. It sounded good in my head, but it was flawed. I guessed the Oasis pool had given me enlightenment, but that didn’t mean every idea would be a winner.
“Finally!” Nakai gasped and I looked down at the glowing talisman to see it crack. That meant all three shaman demons were dead. The talisman’s crack grew wider as it glowed brighter and I began to wonder if the damn thing was about to explode.
“You may want to get back, my Lord,” I cautioned.
“Stand ready,” she ordered, keeping her position, and I left it at that.
The talisman began to shake as the cracks spread all around it and when it finally broke open, it wasn’t the bomb I’d been expecting. It simply fell apart in five sections, releasing the souls it contained into the room. Each soul began to flow toward the demon it belonged to. That was when I opened up my Agoto and immediately, I was able to suck down two of the souls before they could reach the demon corpses. The other souls hit their mark, and those demons rose more alert than I expected them to be. Me, on the other hand, I was out of commission as my body convulsed on the ground. My cock filled my pants with hot, sticky cum as I lay helpless watching as Nakai used her sword to behead two demons with ease.
The last one was giving her a bit of trouble as he dodged her skillful strikes with lightning-quick shadow-like moves. Good news was, he couldn’t teleport. If he could, he would have, so maybe he didn’t have the right amulet to let him breach this ward, or he didn’t have the ability. I figured it was probably the former, because he was a knight and the five of them probably came down here for the ritual, so they didn’t need an amulet.
In any case, I opened my Agoto’s hunger up again and he froze when my demon started to yank his soul from his body. At the same time, Nakai sliced through his neck, severing his head from his torso. Blood squirted everywhere and it was a sight I was used to seeing these days. Again, another orgasm hit me when I finished feeding, leaving me weak and panting.
Nakai walked over to me, her heels clacking loudly on the cement floor. “You did well, Agoto.”
“Thank… thank you,” I managed to say. She reached down, offering her hand, and I took it. As I began to rise, a loud boom thundered above us, shaking the foundation and knocking both Nakai and me back to the ground. “What the fuck was that?” I blurted out.
“I don’t know,” Nakai said.
Dust began to float down upon us and I knew we best get out of there before something collapsed on us. I nodded at Nakai and she nodded at me and took my hand, teleporting us out of the sewer. But the sight I saw before me blew my mind. Buildings were on fire, some were imploding as another bomb went off. Towers of steel, glass, and cement came cascading down in several epic collapses with each explosion. People were running out into the streets and drivers had to swerve to keep from hitting them. Dust and debris clouded the skies, blinding everyone who was stuck in the chaos, not knowing where to go or what was happening. One kid ran across the street and a female driver turned her wheel sharply to avoid the child, but that sent her car careening straight toward me. I teleported out of the way just as the vehicle hit the fire hydrant. The woman’s head slammed against the steering wheel, knocking her unconscious or maybe even worse.
As much as I wanted to go to her, she wasn’t a priority. We needed to know just what the fuck was going on and was this happening in more than one city. Was this the hell on earth we were trying to stop from happening in spite of our efforts? Was this the kind of chaos Katashniel could cause or some unrelated terrorist attack? I was betting this was all demonic in nature. The timing was too perfect. I was just looking at one city block fall into disarray. No telling what was happening elsewhere. Fuck… I hated demons.
