  CHAPTER ONE

  Kendrick

The grass was slippery with blood, body parts, pieces of flesh, and viscera. The two wolves rolled around on the ground, grappling in a fierce battle to the death. As a wolf myself, I could appreciate the passion of the fight. I loved the scent of blood in the air along with the scent of fear and determination. I glanced to my right to see Laurent’s widow, Darla, watching the match before us with intent. Her eyes monitored every punch thrown, every bit of pain inflicted. She knew time was running out. It was the fifth round so far, with only one of my wolves dying... to my disappointment. I was hoping to not lose any wolves. The current match was the first featuring one of my bitten hybrid wolves, and she was seeing for the first time just how fucked they would have been had she opted for a full-fledged war. Her wolf was on his side now, poison working its way through his veins, destroying him from the inside out. My wolf, Drake, wiped blood from his mouth now that he was back in his human form.

I smiled. “That makes four to one and I still have four more hybrids in this tournament. Are you sure you want more of your wolves to die, Darla?”

“I still have a chance to save my territory. Five more matches to go,” she countered.

Giancarlo snorted, but remained silent. She looked at him, her glare was hard, but she didn’t make any remark about his attitude. The very fact that my dragons were taking up a lot of space on this property unnerved her and her pack. I could smell and sense their apprehension, and it was glorious. I would always cherish the memory of her shocked expression when they descended from the sky, wings extended in all their magnificence. The strongest of all supes-- that was what dragons were-- and envied by all for that fact. I laughed when she accused me of not warning her I had dragons in my army, something that was unheard of.

I, of course, told her that my dragons were of no importance to her since she was wise enough to issue a tournament challenge with only my wolves. Still, I relished the reality that she now knew who she was fucking with and how she and her pack didn’t stand a chance.

“Very well, we can continue the matches. I can’t say I’m not enjoying watching the bloodshed. I am half wolf, after all. Blood and sex comfort me.”

“As if I care what you enjoy,” she snapped.

I chuckled. “Play nice, or I won’t let you eat your husband’s heart.”

“If we lose, I’ll need his heart to fully take over the pack. You know that.”

I nodded. “Yes. But I did defeat him fair and square. The spoils of that victory rightfully go to me. The only reason I’m even considering giving it to you is because you are still alive and your pack remains loyal. But, let’s make an alteration.” I turned from the match that was currently setting up. One of my hybrids versus one of her wolves with a silver dagger. I looked at Darla and her eyes were already fixed upon me, waiting for my proposal. “If my wolf defeats yours in this match, let this be the end of this tournament. You take your pack and your husband’s remains and leave, never to return.” I hoped she’d take me up on it. As much as I enjoyed watching the fights, I did have other things to do; other packs to destroy and territory to gain.

“You think you’re so clever, don’t you?” she asked, her lips drawn tight in her rage.

“I do. Now, what is your answer?”

  She scoffed. “Such arrogance.”

“When you’re at the top of the food chain, you have the right to be arrogant,” I pointed out.

She turned to look at the fight that was now underway. Both wolves were locked in a death grip, the silver dagger lay on the ground by their feet. They snarled at each other, canines bared and dripping with saliva, but only my wolf, Adrian, had saliva that would be lethal with the venom mixed with it. All it would take was one bite, a nick… the simplest wound could take down the strongest opponent. That was the only advantage my wolf needed. None of my hybrids were allowed to use fire, as that was the final consignment I had made to Darla. Only because I knew I had true warriors in my army.

I made sure both my wolves and dragons trained as hard as they fucked. Hours every day had to go to strengthening their minds, bodies, and souls, mastering mixed martial arts and other forms of combat. With and without weapons, and in all forms.

I looked back at Darla. “What say you?” Honestly, I knew I would win this tournament. Her wolves were strong, but they were no match, not really, for mine. Deep down inside, she had to know this too.

“If my wolf wins, the tournament continues, and you’ll still give me my husband’s remains,” she countered.

I rolled my eyes, she was as stubborn as her husband. Truth be told, I didn’t need to eat Laurent’s heart. Not if his wolves left the territory. I’d have no need to maintain the link. A
s long as his wife remained alive, they would never choose me. I could admire that level of loyalty.

  “Very well,” I said.

  “Then we have an agreement.”

  “We do.”

I looked at Monroe, who was wearing a black cat suit with five-inch heeled, black leather boots. That would be what he’d call his “fighting attire”. He was standing amongst the crowd, cheering on Adrian a little harder than he cheered on the others. I knew why, he had a thing for Adrian. Couldn’t blame him, really. Adrian was quite the looker. He had been a pretty Thai boy when he was given to me. A gift from my old Alpha for a job well done in defeating a wolf who’d dared to challenge him for territory.

George had told the wolf if he could defeat me, his beta, then he’d hand over his territory. Like a fool, the challenging Alpha accepted those terms. He was not prepared for what I could do, and his death was swift. Adrian was fifteen, a human sold through slavery. One of the oldest institutions, right up there with prostitution. Anyway, I was to do with him whatever I wanted. I took him to my bed, protected him from the other wolves, and pretty much raised him to be the proud wolf he was today. He was the first wolf I turned once I became the Alpha. He was a slave no longer and free to be with anyone he wanted. Monroe had his eyes on him lately and from what I’d noticed, the feeling was mutual.

I smiled as Adrian ducked, dodging a blow from his opponent, and at the same time, slashed his claws along the wolf’s abdomen. Blood gushed from the four slices, adding more blood to the grass below. The wolf covered the wound, preventing his insides from falling out. He staggered back, trying to buy himself some time, but Adrian was on him. The air was thick with the scent of fresh blood and I knew the smell was succulent to my pack. Not so much for my dragons. Cum… the scent of cum and for some, vaginal juices got their lusts revved up. I could see some of my wolves standing around, hands down their pants, stroking cocks. Some hands were down another wolf’s pants, giving a friendly wank. After this tournament, there would be no time for fucking. Once Darla and her pack left, I would move on to Akio’s territory and rest only when necessary.

Darla’s wolf had managed to tackle Adrian to the ground, having healed enough from his wounds to tussle more. They rolled around, over and over, getting bloodier in their battle as they slashed at each other. Neither wolf had transformed into their strongest form, not sure why they hadn’t. Darla’s wolf grabbed the silver dagger that had been knocked out of his hand earlier in the match. He and Adrian were currently struggling over it. The blade was pointed at Adrian’s heart and Adrian was pushing back, trying to keep the blade from penetrating and killing him.

I gripped the armrest of the chair I was sitting in, denting the metal as the scene intensified. I could practically hear my heart beating in my chest. The thumping pounded in my ears as my eyes remained locked on the two wolves. I didn’t want to lose Adrian, and I sure as fuck didn’t want this tournament to continue. I’d already felt like enough time had been wasted. Finally, I couldn’t help myself. “Kill him!” I roared in my attempt to encourage Adrian to get really violent.

“Not feeling so confident anymore?” Darla asked with a smirk. I could see her out of my periphery, gloating as if she had the right.

“I wouldn’t say that. Just frustrated that my wolf has entertained yours for this long,” I shot back. “Yes!” I cheered as Adrian managed to flip the wolf on his back and now, he was on top. The blade was still pointed at his chest, but by switching their positions, he’d gained some measure of an advantage. You could see every muscle in their bodies working overtime and I knew why sports where man was pitted against man were and still are so popular. There was beauty in the brutality.

Unfortunately, Adrian wasn’t able to disarm the other wolf, even with being on top. He pushed the wolf’s hand further to the right, then allowed the blade to pierce his shoulder. He screamed because the silver was burning his flesh, but he used the opportunity to bite the wolf’s wrist. Finally, his opponent was the one screaming.

I sighed and smiled; haughtily, I might add. This match was over. Adrian shoved the wolf’s hands from the handle of the knife and rose to his feet. He stood over the dying wolf and yanked the blade from his shoulder. My army cheered as another one of my wolves cemented my victory. Monroe came to Adrian’s aid, letting him lean on him as he walked back toward the rest of my pack. That wound would need tending to as injuries brought on by silver took longer to heal in wolves. Sometimes, if the damage was too much, the burned flesh needed to be removed for the new flesh to grow back. Especially for wolves with dragon DNA in their veins. It was like double the pain and anguish.

Now that the match had concluded, I turned to Darla. “That would be five to one with only four more matches to go. But we’re not going to have them because of our agreement, correct?” In order for there to be a tie, her wolves would have to defeat all four of mine who remained. Those odds just weren’t in her favor and we both knew it.

I watched her chest heave in her ire. She was trying very hard to stay composed in the face of such a devastating defeat. At the moment her wolf breathed his last breath, she’d lost everything she owned. “This… this territory is yours,” she reluctantly conceded.

“And soon, this whole land will be mine.”

She scoffed. “You plan to challenge Akio, Selena, Deacon, and Josef for their land as well? You’d be a fool if you think you can take them all on.”

“I’ve been called a fool before for having bigger ambitions than what others can imagine. And in all instances, I have been successful. Now, get out of my territory. Take nothing with you but your husband’s remains. You have five minutes to get out of my sight.”

She snarled, yet rose from the chair. “I hope you’ve bitten off more than you can chew and meet your match soon.”

“Best you put your focus on your pack and not me, Alpha.”

She gestured for her pack to follow her and like the loyal wolves they were, they did, leaving the backyard with a few castoff angry expressions. She could always settle in Kansas since it was now vacant. She wouldn’t even have to fight for that territory, I would never want it back. And because I’d won this one fair and square, I’d never have to worry about land for my people.

“Monroe,” I called out, and my second-in-command trotted over to me and Giancarlo, who hadn’t left my side since arriving. “Get everyone ready to leave.”

“You sure you don’t want to rest up a little, my Liege?” Giancarlo asked.

Monroe shook his head. “We can’t. The whole plan of us taking over this territory is hinged on the element of surprise.”

“Exactly. Akio’s pack is huge from what I’ve been told. He has the largest. We have to take into account that Darla will warn him and the other pack Alphas. We can’t give any of them time to prepare,” I said.

“That’s why I think you should have killed that bitch,” Monroe said.

“I know what you wanted me to do. But, I liked the cut of her gib. She reminded me of Belinda,” I said, thinking about the female wolf who had been almost like a mother to me when I’d first been taken into the pack, a former slave and unsure of what my future held. It was Belinda who’d been assigned to train me after the Alpha turned me. That was why I had mad respect for female wolves. Those bitches were even more vicious than some of the males. Darla had that same fire and she kept to her word. I knew the risk in letting her live, but I also wasn’t afraid of those risks.

“I get it,” Monroe said, nodding. “Belinda is a bad bitch. But just so you know, she agreed with me.”

I laughed. “She would. It’s done, let it go.”

“Fine.” Monroe pouted, crossing his arms over his chest.

“Get everyone ready to go,” I commanded.

Giancarlo nodded. “I understand, my King. The dragons will need to fuck to regain their energy.”

I was fully aware of that. Wolves were horny and especially those turned be me could use a boost. But for dragons, sex
was not only satisfying, it was nutritious. “Have them take care of their needs then. In fifteen minutes, we take our leave. No exceptions.”

“Yes, my King.” Giancarlo bowed and walked off to carry out my orders. It didn’t take long for my wolves and dragons to engage in one large orgy. Something that had happened often since I’d combined them. An army that fucks together, stays together.

“Looks like you could use a boost yourself,” Monroe said, then pointed at my erection. “Honestly, babe, that dragon blood in you is as much a curse as it is a blessing.”

I laughed. “If it’s a curse, it’s a small one, insignificant. For me, it’s only been a blessing. Even with needing to feed when I should be preparing to leave will give me pleasure.”

He shrugged. “Better get one of your dragons to take care of that. But to change the subject, are you prepared for Akio to be on high alert now that he’ll no doubt be warned?”

“I know. If they don’t have time to make any real moves, it won’t matter. That’s why we must attack today,” I said.

“There’s a good chance his army is already with him just like Laurent’s was. Seems like they were planning some kind of attack before we got here.”

I nodded. “If my intel is right, Josef mated recently to a vampire/wolf hybrid. Vampires in wolf territory is forbidden. They would have been honor-bound to put an end to it. Of course, I’ll put an end to all of them. Let Akio’s army do what they can, it won’t be enough.” I gestured for Olian to come to me.

“Well, baby, you know I’m a ride or die bitch. I’m with you no matter what,” Monroe said.

I laughed. “I know and love you for it.”

Olian was standing before me a few seconds later. “Yes, my King?”

“My dick needs your mouth,” I said with a wicked grin.

“I’ll leave you to it. I’m sure Adrian could use some T.L.C.,” Monroe said.
